Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept takes lightness to the next level

The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Concept car, revealed at this year's Paris Motor Show, is pioneering the way to lighter supercars. The car, whose name means 'Sixth Element' in Italian, caused a stir at the Show, due to its minimalistic, muscular design, and of course its stunning performance figures. The Sesto Elemento is built totally from carbon fibre, both in its structure and body, and it claims to have accelerated to 60mph (100kph) in 2.5 seconds. Nice. This is perhaps due to the drastic weight shedding that Lamborghini have now made a priority in the designs of their new and future cars. This drastic diet seems to have worked well for the Sesto Elemento, as it has a curb weight of just 999kg, a brilliant achievement on all levels, because there is no real sacrifice when it comes to the performance figures on this car. It is powered by a 5.2 litre V10 engine which delivers 570hp; combine that with its amazing 0-60 time and you are presented with a very light, very powerful and very fast car- one which will apparently inspire the designs of future Lamborghinis. Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, said:-'Every future Lamborghini will be touched by the spirit of the Sesto Elemento', reassuring words considering the fantastic impacts of its design. Looking closely, it is not that hard to spot a hint of the Reventón in the exterior design, with the matt colour of the carbon fibre body revealing all. The large front splitter and rear wing also scream speed, not surprising with a top speed of over 186mph (300kph). The angular body panels are also screaming functionality, with the line coming from the top of the rear wheel arch and spreading to middle of the front arch emphasising this. Lets just hope, then, that Lamborghini lives up to its promise of giving us more cars like the very beautiful Sesto Elemento.
